MISSION

Leader Development provides educational and experiential opportunities for individual members resulting in impactful leaders. Our commitment to better members has us developing more diverse candidates, stronger advocates thus allowing more opportunities to be an enterprise member. 

Cornerstone for Engagement

Cornerstone for Engagement program gives Land O’Lakes members a more in-depth view of their co-op that sets them on a path to developing skills needed to lead their businesses and cooperative. This regional delivered program focuses on the importance of collaboration, integrity while learning about current trends impacting the co-op and producers. This is a great introductory program for producers early in their journey to increased engagement with the co-op.

Objectives

- Members learn more about their co-op, why it’s important to engage with community
- Introduce the importance, need and opportunities for members to engage more with the co-op
- Provide a leader development experiences that supports development of collaboration and integrity

Advocate for Action

Advocate for Action provides Land O’Lakes members with insights on advocating for agriculture and the different ways to become a more engaged member.  This program is held in conjunction with our annual meeting and is targeted at any member that is wanting to find their voice in advocacy.  We can accomplish that by focusing on communication, adaptability, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills to be that more effective advocate.

Objectives

- Explain why we need more advocates
- Learn techniques and tools to be a better advocate
- Discover your journey to be a more engaged member

Step into Governance

Step into Governance program is for Land O’Lakes members to experience what it is like to be one of our elected leaders by learning more about the specific roles and responsibilities. We offer this program during our mid-year meeting to those members who are interested in taking the next step of elected leadership.  We focus on political savvy, financial literacy and innovation competencies that help our members be better elected leaders.

Objectives

- Clarify roles and responsibilities of elected leaders
- First-hand view of being an elected leader
- Deeper understanding of specific skills (changes yearly)
